System Highlights: Data Center Smart Lighting Automation and Control

KNX-Based Lighting Control Infrastructure

The lighting system is built on a KNX automation platform using Interra devices, providing a reliable and scalable lighting control infrastructure for the data center. KNX technology ensures stable communication between devices and supports long-term automation performance.

Automated Lighting with Sensors and Timers

Lighting in corridors, public areas, and operational spaces is managed through motion sensors and timer-based automation. This ensures lighting operates only when required, improving operational efficiency while maintaining proper lighting conditions for maintenance and facility staff.

Daylight-Based Lighting Control with Photocells

Outdoor light sensors (photocells) monitor natural daylight levels and automatically adjust lighting operation. This helps maintain consistent lighting environments while reducing unnecessary energy usage in surrounding areas.

Flexible Lighting Control Interfaces

Lighting can be controlled through keypads, override switches, sensors, and automated scheduling, allowing facility teams to easily manage lighting depending on operational requirements or maintenance activities.

BMS Integration and Centralized Visualization

The lighting control system integrates with the Building Management System (BMS), allowing centralized monitoring and control through a visualization platform. Facility managers can monitor system performance and manage lighting operations from a single interface.

Outcome & Results

  • Reliable lighting control across data server rooms, corridors, public areas, and LV/HV rooms
  • Improved operational efficiency through sensor-based lighting automation and timer scheduling
  • Centralized monitoring and management through BMS integration with visualization platform

FAQ

KNX is widely used for lighting automation because it provides reliable communication between automation devices. In critical environments like data centers, KNX systems support stable operation, centralized control, and scalable automation infrastructure.

BMS integration connects the lighting control system with the Building Management System. This allows facility teams to monitor and manage lighting together with other building systems through a centralized platform.

Sensors detect occupancy or movement and automatically control lighting based on activity. This ensures lights operate only when required, reducing energy consumption while maintaining proper lighting conditions in operational spaces.
